It is possible to import or create the stock in Guideline and define its clamping, as per workpieces.

Stock added can be exported to STEP and Siemens NX (see chap. Export Clamp).

To access it, select "Stock Panel" command

and the Stock Piece window will display.

Guideline calculates the Minimum Bounding Box around the job and displays it in green on the graphical area, ready for its definition.

  • Stock orient options: stock created in guideline is a cube parallel by default to the absolute CSYS, but its orientation can be changed. Those options change the orientation of the selected stock axis (color coded) making it parallel to the selected destination object, without changing the others.

Selecting one of the options opens the window aside, which will filter the selection possibilities

  • Material selection: this is a dropdown list of materials that can be applied to the stock. Mass properties are recalculated consequently.

The list is stored into "Installation directory"\GuideLine V4\Density.txt file and can be edited using a text editor

  • Copy Values

Stock's dimensions and mass properties can be copied on clipboard and pasted onto an Excel or text file.

All values are copied in double Metric-Imperial units.

Please, see an example in this video

ALIGN STOCK

The orientation of the stock is dependent from job's orientation and viceversa (see PHASE 1: Workpiece-Stock orientation) and the same functions can be used to orient it.

However, once the stock is present, it is possible to use "Align Stock" command to orient it along one selected face's normal, which is placed vertically, center it on the table and create the clamping CSYS in the center of that face. The command is accessible pressing "Orient Piece" on the contextual toolbar.

After pressing "Align Stock", Guideline 4.0 waits for the user to select one face on the stock: overing on the stock's faces preselection color applies

Once the face is selected, the stock is then oriented and the CSYS created and saved.

Pressing OK will confirm the orientation

As explained, job's and stock's positions are related, so job's orientation will be consequential.
